PDB: Can you pitch your latest publication/ project in 25 words or less?
My latest short story, SWEEPER, is available in Near To The Knuckle. It examines how society doesn’t always look out for the most vulnerable.
PDB Which books, films or television shows have floated your boat recently?
Film – has to be MONGOL, about the early life of Genghis Khan, a rare treat of a film, scenery, acting, story and blood. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416044/
TV – I enjoyed The Slap, an Australian production. It follows the shattering repercussions of a single event. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/theslap/
Books – Always the last thing I’ve read, so Murderers Anonymous by Douglas Lindsay http://goo.gl/j1o58
PDB: Is it possible for a writer to be an objective reader?
I think when you try to write yourself, it makes you appreciate even more the skill that goes into telling a very simple story that keeps you turning the page…or clicking the button!
PDB: Do you have any interest in writing for films, theatre or television?
Does writing school Christmas shows count...no didn’t think so! But if you’re offering...I’m in!
PDB: How much research goes into each book?
I write more about emotions and if I feel I suddenly have to research something then that’s a big hint to me that I’m beginning to over-complicate and write guff that I don’t know about.
PDB: How useful or important are social media for you as a writer?
I can’t imagine writing without the support of all of my on-line friends, the opportunities to have your work read and the instant feedback that I receive.
PDB: What’s on the cards in 2012?
I’m trying to write some longer pieces starting with a serialization of a novel that I’m currently tearing to shreds. I’ve also written the first chapter of a new novel and outlined the rest so I’ll see how that goes. Both pieces are crime based but I find more and more humour creeping into my work.
