NEWSFLASH: PAUL D. BRAZILL BRINGS HIS NEW “DRUNK ON THE MOON” SERIES TO TRESTLE PRESS

Hello everybody! I got this news yesterday and immediately my blood pressure sky rocketed. Incredible, fun, cutting edge, intense, how more commas can I have in this sentence? Anybody?

Let’s get to it shall we: Paul D. Brazill ,one of the gods of noir/hard-boiled/mystery/horror has begun to not just put together a character but an entire series called “Drunk On The Moon” ! The first installment hits cyberspace next Friday July 8th. Each month a new installment of series will be out using different authors to create an atmosphere that is both chilling and inviting. The stories will revolve around the central character –P.I. Roman Dalton, a werewolf. Feel free to check out the cover art I have created for the first installment on Facebook, The Novel Spot, Edgy Christian Fiction, Cyber Authors and a number of social networking websites.

Trestle Press is both humbled and honored to be hosting this Avant guard and cutting edge series. Me, well I am going to be doing the cover art and posting on the work, so basically I get a great seat for the fun. Maybe they will make me honorary ring master, as this sounds like it is going to be one great show. Grab your ticket to the first show they are only going to be $.99, a bargain for such quality entertainment. The line starts at Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and Smashwords so don’t be late.

Writers who will be contributing to the Drunk On The Moon series include  Richard Godwin, Katherine Tomlinson, B R Stateham and Frank Duffy.

Want to walk down these MEAN STREETS with me?

So what the hell is MEAN STREETS?

Well, MEAN STREETS is a tasty, brand spanking, new crime website.

It's the brainchild of  top author Harry Bingham and The Writer's Workshop.

And thanks to that nice -though you wouldn't know from reading his books- Australian-Irish-Scot Tony Black, I'm going to be writing some crime book reviews for them.

Looks good,eh?

Down these MEAN STREETS most go... oh, you know the score. Now don't call me a mook.

Sebastian Cross by Kevin Lynn Helmick

Writers are a pretty boring bunch, for the most part, aren't they? Nerdy bookworms sitting on their jacksies all day writing or reading.

But, then there's Sebastian Cross.

Kevin Lynn Helmick's Sebastian Cross is described as a literary adventure, and it is certainly a hard novel to pigeon hole.

The story of Sebastian Cross is narrated by his long time friend and literary agent Murray Henshaw. And what a story it is!

Cross is like an amalgam of Hemingway and Charles Foster Kane. Yes he's a writer- an incredibly successful writer, too- but he's also a mountain climbing, globe trotting, action hero.

Sebastian Cross by Kevin Lynn Helmick is a very clever, well written and  action packed look at fame and the power of the personality. It spans decades and continents and will keep you on your toes from beginning to end.

Out There Bad by Josh Stallings

Josh Stallings ROARED into my field of vision earlier this year with his fantastic debut novel, Beautiful, Naked and Dead. BND introduced us to Moses McGuire, a suicidal strip-club bouncer with a heart of gold and great skill in the art of war.

Well, Stallings has followed up BND with a second Moses McGuire novel, the adrenaline pumping Out There Bad, which just as high octane and visceral as his debut.

Out There Bad sees Moses take on the Russian mob after promising a stripper that he'd save her young sister from becoming a sex slave. Gregor, his gigantic Armenian side-kick, is also on board, as is Angel , his bull mastiff and a Russian serial killer, who leaves Tarot cards on the cadavers of the victims.

Moses is relentless, and like a tornado, he rips thought California and Mexico, leaving destruction in his wake.

Out There Bad is another blood soaked, hard hitting mix of James Crumley and Joe Strummer and is highly recommended.

If you want to sample Josh Stallings' writing, you can have a gander at Freedom Day, a Moses McGuire short story.

Kindle version of Allan Guthrie's Two-Way Split OUT NOW!

This is the skinny: TWO-WAY SPLIT by Allan Guthrie

'A lean and muscular crime thriller with a seriously twisted dark side.

Robin Greaves is an armed robber whose professionalism is put to the test when he discovers his wife has been sleeping with a fellow gang member. Robin plans the ultimate revenge, but things go from bad to worse when the gang bungles a post office robbery, leaving carnage in their wake. Suddenly they are stalked by the police, sleazy private eyes, and a cold-blooded killer who may be the only one not looking for a cut of the money…

"With razor-sharp characterisation and an evocative sense of place, the novel's pace never relents: the supremely damaged characters that Guthrie conjures up are seldom let off the hook, and stew throughout in their fetid juices. Dark and splendid."  The Guardian

"...a memorable and stunning and pitch-perfect debut and one you should grab forthwith. I can't remember a first novel this good in a long, long time." Mystery Scene

 TWO-WAY SPLIT

Allan Guthrie is an award-winning Scottish crime writer. His debut novel, TWO-WAY SPLIT, was shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger award and went on to win the Theakston's Crime Novel Of The Year.  He is the author of four other novels: KISS HER GOODBYE (nominated for an Edgar), HARD MAN, SAVAGE NIGHT and SLAMMER and three novellas: KILL CLOCK , KILLING MUM and BYE BYE BABY, a Top Ten Kindle Bestseller. When he's not writing, he's a literary agent with Jenny Brown Associates and runs the ebook crime fiction blog, Criminal-E.'

Sounds good,eh? I'll let you know how I get on with it is a bit.

Lost Exit by Kevin Michaels

Two steps forward and one step back. That's life for most of us, if we're lucky.
In Kevin Michaels'  brilliant crime drama Lost Exit, young basketball star Timmy Davenport returns home to Atlantaic City to spend a scorching  summer trying to move on and escape the grip of the past.

Old friends and rivals, booze and drugs, gangs and casinos, bullets and bodies all act as obstacles in the way of  Timmy's chances of growing up.

Lost Exit is a gripping and very moving piece of social realism which will appeal greatly to fans of the television series  The Wire

Out Now! Remaindered by Lee Goldberg

Remaindered by Lee Goldberg is the clever and very funny story of a former writing golden boy reduced to pimping his books in supermarkets. I read it as part of the Top Suspense Anthology and it is now available as a 'single'. Here's what Lee Goldberg has to say:

'REMAINDERED is about Kevin Dangler, a once-famous author desperate to regain his lost glory while traveling the back-roads of middle America, selling remaindered, fifth-editions of his first book out of the trunk of his car. Along the way, he meets his biggest fan...who could be his salvation...or a novel way to die.

The story was an Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine Readers Choice Award finalist and has previously appeared in the anthologies "Three Ways to Die" and "Top Suspense."

The Kindle and Nook releases contains a link to a free, private, streaming video of  the Remaindered short film, written & directed by me, and shot late last year on location in Kentucky, using entirely local talent. The film is currently playing the festival circuit and has already been screened as an official selection of the Beaufort International Film Festival, the Big Island Film Festival, the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, The Beverly Hills Shorts Festival, and the Derby City Film Festival, where one of our stars, Sebrina Siegel was a finalist for Best Actress.

Here's a sampling of the critical praise for REMAINDERED, the short film:

"REMAINDERED was such a hoot. I loved everything about it and had so much fun. More awesomeness from Lee Goldberg," Sara Gran, author of "Dope" and "Come Closer."
"REMAINDERED was so well done on some many levels," Naomi Hirahara, bestselling author of "Blood Hina."

"REMAINDERED is brilliant! Hilarious, suspenseful, with booksigning sequences that induce PTSD... bravo!" Barry Eisler, bestselling author of "Hard Rain."
"REMAINDERED is terrific," Ken Levine, Emmy-award winning writer/producer of "M*A*S*H" and "Cheers."

"A most enjoyable mini-feature. Professional all the way from screenplay to actors to direction. I must say I also laughed at all the touches of wry comedy. Lee Goldberg has the goods," William Link, Emmy Award winning writer/co-creator of "Columbo" and "Murder She Wrote"

"REMAINDERED is a hoot, a low budget production with a big heart and exceptional values, a twenty minute film that keeps you holding your breath until it explodes with laughter," Paul Bishop, author of "Twice Dead" and host of the upcoming ABC reality series "Take the Money and Run."

"The story was great and the actors were outstanding," Joel Goldman, author of "No Way Out."

"I loved REMAINDERED!" Daniel J. Hale, co-author of "Red Card."
"Very entertaining. Hard to believe it was directed by a first-timer. And I loved the soundtrack," Matt Witten, writer/producer of "House," "Medium" and "Law & Order."
"I enjoyed REMAINDERED immensely," Hal Ackerman, author of "Stein Stoned" and co-chair of the screenwriting department of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television

"One of the highlights of Bouchercon - the world mystery convention - was watching Lee Goldberg's independent film REMAINDERED. If it comes to a film festival near you, don't miss it. It rocked the house," Julie Kramer, author of "Silencing Sam."

"A marvelous script. Haven't heard that much out loud laughter from an audience in a long time," Robert S. Levinson, author of "Ask a Dead Man."
"Really well done and hilarious," Sheila Lowe, author of "Written in Blood"

"This twenty-minute film is funny, sharply observed, and very well put together. It might be a low-budget production, but it doesn't look it. The actors are having fun, and Goldberg gets the most out of every shot," Bill Crider, author of "Outrage at Blanco."

"Stinging and accomplished...the tale is as well-turned as you'd expect from a pro and it takes imaginative flight from a reality that'll be recognized by anyone who has ever faced the world over a stack of books at a signing table," Stephen Gallagher, author/writer/creator of the hit BBC TV series "The Eleventh Hour."

"This may be the only time you’ll ever hear the dictate “Read to me” uttered quite so seductively. Telling more about Goldberg’s plot would spoil its many criminal and comic delights," The Rap Sheet

"It is the laugh-out-loud-funny story," D.P. Lyle, author of "Forensics for Dummies."

"If someone ever decides to retool Alfred Hitchcock's old TV show, "Remaindered" would fit in nicely. It reminded me of one of the mystery story’s great pleasures: of following a tightly plotted tale with unexpected plot twists and a satisfying conclusion. It’s difficult to pull off, but I’m happy to say that Lee succeeded," Bill Peschel, media critic.'

White Ink at Shotgun Honey

One of my favourite flash fiction ezines is Shotgun Honey

So, I'm more than somewhat chuffed to have a new story there called White Ink.

It was bloody tight trying to keep this one under the 700 word limit, but I think I pulled it off.

NOIR NATION on KICKSTARTER

wANT TO MAKE A PLEDGE? hERE YOU GO!

ABOUT NOIR NATION

Noir Nation aims to create a journal of crime fiction supported by an interactive community-building Web site. The Web site will also feature short original works of film noir.
We decided to pursue a digital platform because there are many places in the world with roads that are difficult to travel, which lead sometimes to poorly stocked bookstores and libraries.
Noir Nation: International Journal of Crime Fiction would be delivered electronically anywhere in the world that can receive either cable or wireless communications signals.
The magazine will be professionally edited and designed so that readers can engage immediately with the writing and art and the ideas they convey rather than having to overcome natty typos and badly formatted paragraphs that slow the velocity of their enjoyment.
Why crime noir? There is currently no periodic publication on an international scale satisfying readers' hunger for works of well-wrought literary fiction that explore the dark side of human experience, and that does so while pursuing its own aesthetic ends, rather than the legitimate but sometimes competing interests of the marketing departments of commercial publishing houses.

To accomplish our goals, we will rely on local and internationally based writers and visual artists and graphic designers to create, edit, and lay out the magazine in a format that will be delivered to e-book reading devices, including the Kindle, the iPad, and smartphones. This venture will be supported by a Web site that will invite bloggers and other writers to share information and commentary about developments in the noir and crime writing community. A keen eye and a good rapport with readers and artists will ensure that Noir Nation will have a steady supply of the best crime fiction being written today.

The money you are pledging is for the design, layout, cover art, illustrations, photography, and production costs of the journal, conversion to EPUB, writer and artist stipends, work for hire, as well as copyrighting to ensure the rights of individual writers and artists are protected, purchase of an ISSN, and for any coding and design work required to ensure successful delivery to most if not all e-book reading devices currently available in the market, but especially those most commonly used in developing nations.

COLLATERAL DAMAGE

Once again the eight authors of DoSomeDamage.com bring together eight stories of murder and mayhem in these linked stories.

TERMINAL DAMAGE, a Spinetingler Magazine nominee for best anthology, featured stories linked together by one awful day in an airport.

The brand new COLLATERAL DAMAGE builds on the success of the earlier collection, this time focusing on Father's Day.

This collection boasts stories from Joelle Charbonneau (SKATING AROUND THE LAW, SKATING OVER THE LINE, the Paige Marshall mysteries), John McFetridge (LET IT RIDE, DIRTY SWEET), Dave White (WHEN ONE MAN DIES, WITNESS TO DEATH), Russel D. McLean (THE LOST SISTER, THE GOOD SON), Sandra Ruttan (THE FRAILTY OF FLESH, SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES), Scott D.
