News From Hull's Finest Crimewriter

'Hello,

I hope you’re well and 2011 is up and running well for you. I’ve been busy writing and hibernating, but I’m ready to leave the house again...

Hull Kingston Rovers

I’m delighted to finally announce that my favourite rugby league club have appointed me as their first ever ‘Writer in Residence’. We believe it’s the first time any Super League club has created such a position. The club has commissioned me to write a series of special rugby league inspired Joe Geraghty short stories for inclusion in this season’s match day programmes. It’s been quite a challenge, but if you think of a warmer and more celebratory version of David Peace’s “The Damned United”, you’re not far away. I’m also going to be involved in helping the club with promoting reading and writing in the community, so it’s an exciting venture for me to be involved in. Here’s some press coverage of my appointment:

New novel – “The Late Greats”

I’m delighted to have signed contracts with Caffeine Nights for the next Joe Geraghty novel, “The Late Greats”. More to follow on this. Publication is set for September 2011. Here’s the draft blurb:

“Convinced by their manager, Kane Major, to put their acrimonious break-up behind them and launch a comeback, Hull’s most successful band of the 1990s is reforming. Allowing one privileged journalist to document the process, Joe Geraghty is employed to act as a liaison between the different camps. What appears to be a straightforward assignment soon sees him neck deep in trouble when singer, Greg Tasker disappears, leaving behind a trail of people who wanted him out of their lives. The job takes Geraghty deep into the city, and as the rich and famous rub shoulders with the poor and vulnerable, the stakes increase for everyone. Forced to keep his friends close but his enemies closer still, the case becomes a test of Geraghty’s loyalties, as he stands to lose everything he holds dear.”

Interviews and press

I was interviewed by “Scene of the Crime” in relation to location within my work. It was an interesting exercise:

Back to the writing...have a great weekend!
