NICK QUANTRILL

'Hello,

Greetings from a white and cold Hull! I hope you’re all well. This will probably be the last mail-out in 2010, so I wanted to send out a big thank you for all the support during the year. I never realised when “Broken Dreams” was published just how hard and enjoyable it is being a writer. I’ve taken part in all types of events and met so many great people. It’s undoubtedly given me a huge incentive to kick on in 2011. I’ll do my best. I have a few things to tell you about:

Events

December 7th – Fruit, 62-63 Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TU. Launch of ‘The Finger’, the English department’s creative writing magazine. I was interviewed for the launch edition and will be reading from “Broken Dreams”. The night starts at 7.30pm. Entry £2, including nibbles.

Short stories

A new Joe Geraghty short, “Wrong ‘Em Boyo” has just gone live on Byker Books (www.bykerbooks.co.uk/Wrongemboyo.aspx). I have a couple more short stories floating around, so I hope they become available early next year. More details when I get definite word.

The launch of “Fathom 10” was a great success with copies of the book flying out of the door. The collection aims to round up the best new writing in Northern Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding. I’m delighted to have three pieces of flash-fiction in the book, including the first outing for Joe Geraghty in print.

Interviews and press

Excellent new crime website, “The Crime Of It All”, interviewed me, and they ask some tough questions. You can read it here:

“Sons of Spade” reviewed “Broken Dreams”. You can read what they made of it here:

Harrogate Crime Festival offshoot, “You’re Booked” asked me to write an article about how I’d used short stories and the Internet to start building a readership. You can read it here:

Books for Christmas and other Hull writers

I have a small number of signed copies of “Broken Dreams” in my possession. The perfect Christmas present! If you’d like one, the book costs £7.99 (free p&p). Please send me an email for more details. You can also order online if that’s more your thing:

I’ve discovered this year that Hull isn’t the barren place in terms of literature I thought it was. To pick out a couple of my favourites, and what’s better than receiving a book as a present, Danny Birch’s gangster tale “Get Some” is doing extremely well and Richard Sutherland’s collection of short stories and poems, “The Unitary Authority Of Ersatz”, has to be read to be believed. If you’re still not satisfied, the excellent Russ Litten launches his novel, “Scream If You Want To Go Faster” at Fruit on January 6th. Not to be missed.

As ever, there’s plenty more in the pipeline, including news of an exciting new venture in the New Year. More to follow...

All the best,
Nick

Leigh, Nick's from Hull. A trip to Poundland is exciting for him ...

Absolutely. We have so many Pound Shops, it's sometimes difficult choosing.

Ta for passing it on, Mr B.

Enjoyed Mr. Quantrill's experiences with the internet publicity campaign, something I am trying to do. It appears to me that Facebook is a tough nut to crack for selling books and stories.
