Jim Thompson’s Lunatic Hops Out of Stanley Kubrick’s Trunks at Last

In 1955  Stanley Kubrick commissioned  Jim Thompson to write the screenplay adaptation of Lionel White's novel Clean Break, filmed as The Killing. The result was a classic film.

Pop over to PULP METAL MAGAZINE for Los Angeles writer  Matt Dukes Jordan'fantastic piece on their final collaboration.

Although I'm a huge Jim Thompson fan I have to admit I'm somewhat wary of this one.
Far and away the best AMERICAN version of a Thompson novel is Maggie Greenwald's deliriously grimy and sordid, 'The Kill Off'
(I need to have it on DVD).

Despite Bruce Dern's presence I HATED After Dark My Sweet'; and althought Scarlet Johansson is a better actor than the godawful, albeit gorgeous-looking, Rachel Ward, I fear there'll be too much of Scarlet Johansson, and not enough of Thompson.

The French did Thompson best: check out 'Coup De Torchon' and 'Serie Noire'

Yep, I agree. The start of The Kill off is brilliant, with the telephone lines buzzing. I haven't sen it since it came out but the image i still strongly in my mind. 'Coup' also but I haven't seen Serie Noir.I liked The Grifter's but I haven't sen 'After dark.'
