In Germany Before The War - Narrative Music at Hardboiled Wonderland

Top noir writer Jed Ayres' HARDBOILED WONDERLAND is one of those blogs, like Pulp Serenade or The Night Editor, were you will always read something well written and probably discover something new. The blog's tagline - Noir Literature, Film and Culture- sums it up pretty well.

A current feature of the blog is the NARRATIVE MUSIC series where Jed has enlisted various people to write about music with a noir feel, theme or both.

I was pleased as punchdrunk when Jed Asked me to write something for the series and so I came up with a piece called In Germany Before The War which is up here:

Thanks for the invite and the kind words Jed and Happy New Year!

(Oh, here's the link to the song!)

Thanks Paul, and for the hardboiled link. Randy Newman would be one of the most under-rated songwriters of his day. Have a listen to Good Old Boys if you haven't already.

Cheers, and a Happy New Year!

Perhaps this is sacrilegious, but I like the lyrics much more than his singing. Great words, proving that songwriters are poets at heart (some anyway).

Excellent post on Hardboiled Wonderland. I had never heard of Peter Kuchen before -- what a monster! It is quite a surprise that Randy Newman has memorialized it in his song. You picked a winner to write about, Paul! Thanks for sharing.

Paul, I love the fact that you don't mince words. You always tell it like it is.
